I’m getting asked if it’s worth the drive to Buffalo for that winter vacation now that the loonie is crashing? My response is yes, yes, yes! Lets take a look at a trip to Orlando at the end of the month from both Toronto and Buffalo. You may want to take a look at some of my previous posts with regards to comparing parking charges and travel costs to Buffalo. Basically I consider the travel time a wash based on the fact that you have to be at Pearson two hours early for a U.S. flight and if you fill up the car in Buffalo the overall cost of gas is minimal if you can return with a full tank of lower cost U.S. gas.
Using the same departure dates, both direct flights, at around the same time your flight with Air Canada will cost $816.48 per person PLUS your baggage fee of $26.25 each way assuming you only take one bag for a total of $868.95 vs a flight from Buffalo on Southwest at $292.20 ($356.48 CDN) there are no baggage charges for first two bags per person.
So we are STILL looking at a savings of $512.47 per person or $2,049.88 for a family of four – That will cover your admission to Disney and most of your meals.
ENJOY!
