As of February 1st the 407 ETR will again be increasing its rates, they will also be adding two new Regular and Light Zone “Peak Hour” rates so we can all expect our monthly bills to increase. On average Peak rates will increase from $0.02 – $0.04 per km depending on time of day. An end-to-end trip at the highest rate will now cost $37.96. The flat-rate Trip Toll Charge increases from $0.80 to $0.90 per trip. The $0.90 is added to each trip regardless of distance. An additional 32 km is to be open on the eastern extension to harmony Rd. later this year. This will add an additional $11.11 to the end-to-end trip, therefore someone travelling from Oshawa to Hamilton will pay $49.07 one way or $98.14. Tolls are currently Tax Exempt.
Now for a comparison you can drive from Buffalo to New York City, a distance of 426 miles, for $18.62 regardless as to time of day.
This makes the 407 nearly 56 times more expensive than the NY State Throughway.
