Canadian wireless carriers raise prices for monthly plans

Do you all remember the media blitz by Bell, Rogers and Telus re the CRTC opening up new frequencies. Huge one-page ad’s in the major newspapers, TV spots etc. Remember – If the CRTC “allows” a major U.S. cell provider to enter Canada it will be catastrophic for Canadians. Competition will be eroded and consumer prices will increase.

Well guess what? Once again WE are the ones to pay! Read the recent Huffington Post headline……

The price hikes — $5 hikes by Bell and Rogers over the past week, and a similar hike by Telus in January. Canada ranks in the top 10 most expensive countries in the OECD for wireless services. Congratulations Bell, Rogers and Telus on a brilliant media campaign to an ever gullible Canadian public.  

Oh yes, and don’t think the falling loonie has nothing to do with this. Remember most equipment is purchased in US dollars.
