I recently tweeted a story http://www.torontosun.com/2014/02/12/feds-lack-plan-for-cross-border-pricing from yesterdays Toronto Sun with the first paragraph of… “Politicians say Canadians are unfairly paying more than Americans for the same products but they don’t seem to know what to do about it.”
Now I’m sure that you will all remember back over the last few years the ongoing retort that our politicians would be “looking into” why Canadians pay more for good. Well looks like they looked into it and the response will be “suck it up” and live with it. Can you see them telling manufactures not to charge what they do for their products, distributors that they are making too much profit or retailers that they need to be more aggressive with their prices? Not going to happen. Oh, almost forgot, government should eliminate tariffs!
“There is no conceivable way the government can legislate prices,” University of Toronto economics professor Ambarish Chandra says. So my fellow CBS’ (Cross-Border Shoppers) what are we to do? Amp it up, look harder for the best deals south of the border, join every U.S. rewards program that you can and continue to make more of your hard earned, after tax, dollars work to your advantage.
