As a frequent cross-border shopper I know the advantage to having an E-ZPass. This is a transponder similar to the one used on the 407 ETR that is accepted by 25 toll agencies in 15 states.
I recently receive a letter regarding “Notification of Reduced Annual service Fee, Transponder Deposit, Lost/Stolen Fee and Increased E-ZPass Discount”. So here is what you will never hear from 407 ETR….
Your annual transponder service fee will decrease from $21.50 annually to $11.75 annually or from $3.25 monthly to $1.65 per month.
407ETR Transponder holders will pay lower toll rates than cash customers.
What you will see is “Overdue accounts may result in the plate owner being denied the renewal of licence plate sticker(s) until all overdue accounts are paid.” BTW we are paying a weekday rate of between 19.35 c/km and 27.20 c/km depending on time of day.
I have a car that gives me a mileage rating of Highway Driving: 5.7 L/100 km. At $1.25/ltr it will cost me $7.12 in gas and $27.20 in 407 charges during their peak periods to travel 100 km.
