This post comes from my friends, converted last year and now wintering in sunny Phoenix.
A bit of background, in June 2010 our friend bought two new pair of glasses; bothno line progressives, one a regular pair and the second sun glasses. Total cost in Toronto $1,259.00
With a new prescription in hand she thought that she would wait till she got to Phoenix to do some comparative shopping. First stop was Wal-Mart where they advised her that they did not accept Canadian prescriptions however they would set up an eye exam for her at $45.00 then she would be good to go.
Costco had no problem with Canadian prescription Frames were in $100.00 to $200.00 range and the lenses for each pair were $149.00. Her selection would cost $636.00. for both pairs, not bad!
Sears best deal they had was 350.00 for each pair for a total of 700.00.
Lenscrafters- no deals at this time cost approximately $900.00.
Eyemasters– (soon to be called Visionworks) No line progressives for regular glasses with clear shield and no line progressives for sun glasses with clear shield and u.v. protections on both side of lens and polarized. Total bill for both pair total cost came to $369.00 They were ready in 9 days and the service was exceptional. http://www.eyemasters.com/
So in summary – $1,259.00 in Toronto, $369.00 in Phoenix – Total Savings $890.00
