As I mentioned in an earlier Blog I went to the Phoenix Coyotes – Winnipeg Jets opener this past weekend. It was a sell-out game with over 17,000 in attendance. Two tickets, first lever, front row cost us $54.00, handling fees $10.00, shipping $7.50 – Total Price $71.76 Parking at the Jobing Arena is free. One thing that really caught my notice were the number of families in attendance, Dad, Mom and a couple of Kids or just Dad’s with two or three boys. Caused me to thing how many times in the last couple of years I had seen families or Dad’s with kids at Toronto games? Never!
A family can go to a hockey game in Phoenix for just a little more than the cost of a movie. Isn’t this the way it should be? Toronto has priced it’s tickets so high that if a family of four wanted to go it would cost them a small fortune, even if they could get tickets. A drive downtown, $20.00 for parking, and, with any luck some nosebleeds for $50.00 a head – it’s a $200.00 plus night.
No wonder so many kids have never experienced a live game. Pity!
